a. Depiction of Awa dancing. b. Floral welcome wreaths. c. Puppeteers' shoes. Tokushima has an annual event at which a famous dance procession, called Awa dancing, takes place. For months before the big day many groups of people, especially young men and women, can be seen practicing the very peculiar steps of this dance in organised practice sessions in the local parks on their free evenings. The floral wreaths are placed outside new businesses in Japan by the neighbouring shopkeepers as a welcoming gesture, and to wish the new trader good fortune. |
