Electric Image file format
EIFormat reads and writes 1, 4, 8, and 24 bit depths including alpha channels. The plugin also reads .EIZ ElectricImage Z-buffer depth files (preview of multi-frame EIZ files is not yet implemented).
It was produced at the request of, and with the assistance of, Matt Hoffman of Electric Image.
Albert Kiefer has benchmarked saving a 57MB RGB file (4970x2663 pixels) with both the Adobe EI plugin and this plugin. The Adobe plugin took 10 minutes and 53 seconds; this plugin took 6 seconds - a 100x speedup:

This plugin should also work with other applications that support Photoshop plugins (Daniel Hartlehnert reports that AfterEffects and Commotion can use it to read or write single frames).
