Kagoshima is known as the Naples of Japan, in part due to its warm, balmy climate, but mainly due to the proximity of the very large, very active volcano on Sakurajima. The ash constantly in the air makes eating a very gritty experience, and cars, washing and the fruit ripening on trees all need extra attention to keep the ash at bay. |
